Hello, My name is Leasha Thomas, I have over 12 years counselling experience working within Aberdeen charities, NHS providers and in my own private practice. I specialise in trauma recovery, childhood abuse & neglect although I am open to work with any issue.
Life often takes us out of balance and harmony, sometimes we struggle to find that peaceful place that is within us all. It can be helpful to have someone by your side to provide the right support so you can explore issues safely and in your own way. As a person centred counsellor I believe we can all find our way forward and grow through even the most challenging experiences.
I will aim to explain as clearly as possible the service I am offering and the person centred approach I use in therapy answering any questions you may have.
I will clarify the professional nature of the counsellor/client relationship and explain the limitations of the service I provide.
Together we will complete an assessment involving me asking questions such as; Why are you seeking counselling? What is your current situation & personal history? What symptoms are you experiencing? This enables us both to explore whether counselling is right for you and whether you would like to meet with me again as it is very important you find the right counsellor for you.
I will provide information related to confidentiality, data protection and discuss dates/times of sessions and also how and when I can be contacted.
Together we will discuss and sign an agreement for our work together should you wish to proceed with counselling.
face to face sessions with me at my practice for short or long term therapy. This type of therapy format is the most popular because it provides an opportunity for you to react to any emotions that arise there and then.
face to face sessions for young people over the age of 12 years that are ‘talking based’ with room for creative communication if this is preferred
Counselling with both clients present at each session with an opportunity to improve communication and resolve issues within the intimate relationship reaching your own conclusions under professional guidance. This form of therapy can help with issues such as; lack of trust, betrayal or affair, jealousy, lack of communication, financial issues, work-related stress, different sexual needs or other sexual issues, family conflicts, different goals & values, parenting issues and life changes to name a few.
Face to face counselling is the most recognised form of treatment, however there are a number of factors that may mean receiving counselling in another way may be more appropriate for you including; accessibility, affordability, anonymity and convenience. I am happy to discuss these methods further in our initial contact if you think they would be more suitable for you.
Counselling for traumatic events which have overwhelmed the body & mind this can be caused by; abuse, accidents, brain tumour or injury, catastrophic events, physical injury, terminal illness, bereavement and violence.
Counselling for family issues such as disruption after separation or divorce, problems with step-family life, communication difficulties, parenting issues, children leaving home, alliances and hostilities within the family group.
Due to the nature of my work my hours are very flexible. PLease get in touch for a better understanding of my availablity.
